Who is responsible?

The relevant framework is the Swiss Federal Act on Data Protection (FADP), and the GDPR where its conditions of application are met.
Discussing a project
Email and telephone links open your usual application. You choose the information you send: name, contact details, message and any attachments. These are used to reply and, if requested, to prepare or deliver a service. Only send information relevant to your enquiry.
The contact mailbox uses Gmail (Google). Your email or phone provider also handles delivery of these communications. Messages are not collected in a website database.
Where the GDPR applies, quotation or service requests rely on pre-contractual steps or performance of a contract (Article 6(1)(b)); other enquiries rely on the legitimate interest in responding to people who contact Lothar Hempel (Article 6(1)(f)). Retention criteria must cover follow-up and applicable legal obligations; actual periods remain to be confirmed before publication.
You decide whether to load videos
Previews are local images. No YouTube or Vimeo player is contacted before you click. Loading a video authorises a connection to the provider identified by its link: it receives your IP address and browser and playback information. YouTube also receives the website’s origin.
YouTube uses its privacy-enhanced mode; Vimeo is requested with its tracking-limitation option. These settings do not make playback anonymous. Providers may process data outside Switzerland and the European Economic Area, including in the United States, under mechanisms described in their policies. Google also handles Gmail communications under its policy.
This optional loading is your choice. You can browse the rest of the website without accepting it. “Close video” removes the player and stops its use on this page, without deleting data already sent to the provider. Your choice is not saved for a later visit.
Your rights and contact
You can request access to your personal data and ask for correction or deletion. Depending on applicable law and circumstances, you can also request restriction or a portable copy, object to processing and withdraw consent for the future.
Send your request to lhempel.media@gmail.com and identify the relevant correspondence. Identity checks may be requested, limited to necessary information. You may also contact the FDPIC in Switzerland or the competent EU supervisory authority.
